In the Preface , we caught a glimpse of the usefulness of linear approximations. If all relationships were linear, life would be easy. But most of the models we have developed so far are nonlinear! In this chapter and the ones that follow, we’ll dig deeper into how to compute and use linear approximations to nonlinear relationships.
