First semester graduate algebraic geometry. This course
will provide an introduction to algebraic geometry from an algebraic
(as opposed to analytic) point of view. It will discuss algebraic varieties
and schemes, with an emphasis on curves. Notions such as sheaves, morphisms,
divisors, and bundles will be discussed. This course is a prerequisite for
Math 625, which will be offered the following semester and will go more
in depth, discussing Riemann-Roch for curves and surfaces and using a
cohomological framework.
Class schedule: Wed and Fri, 10:30-noon, on Zoom, from Sept. 2 to
Dec. 9, 2020.
