Previously, there were two exams during the semester, held during the regular class time. The dates were Friday, Oct. 16 and Friday, Nov. 20.
On each of these exams (the final exams, and the ones during the semester), it is permissable to bring in a single 5"x7" index card, handwritten on one or both sides, with material relevant to the course. No calculators, computers, notebooks, texts, or other additional aids are permitted during any of the exams.
In general, problem sets are assigned weekly, and are due the following Wednesday in class. Homework may be handed in early, to Dr. Harbater's mailbox in the Math Department office. Students are encouraged to discuss difficult homework problems with others in the class, but the work that is handed in should be written up individually by each student. Answers should be written up in a clear, coherent, and concise manner. Computational problems may be done either by hand or by using mathematical software (such as Maple or MATLAB).
