Besides being a mathematician and teacher, I am also a dancer and musician. I dance and teach the Lindy Hop, a partnered improvisational vernacular jazz dance which originated in the late 1920's in Harlem, and continues as a living art form today. If you'd like to go dancing in Philadelphia, check out Lindy and Blues, an all-volunteer organization which hosts several weekly dances along with beginner lessons. I have taught lessons there in the past.
I'm also a musician. I play the trumpet. I picked it up in order to be able to play the kind of music that I dance to; I focus on traditional New Orleans jazz and swing. Sometimes you can hear me playing for dancers on Sunday afternoons in Rittenhouse Square.
