Problem of the day for Tuesday, January 14

Yesterday's problem

January 10 hints and answers

A dog chasing a rabbit, which has a lead of 150 feet, jumps 9 feet for every time the rabbit jumps 7. In how many leaps does the dog overtake the rabbit? (Assume the dog and the rabbit jump the same number of times per minute.)

Start out by drawing a picture, then think about what happens on the first few jumps. How much closer is the dog after 10 jumps? 20 jumps? And how can you use this information to solve the problem?

As always, be sure to explain the work you did to arrive at your answers!
