Text: Differential equations and linear algebra, by Goode and Annin, 3rd edition

Course Description: We will begin with Chapter 4. Linear algebra: vector spaces, subspaces, spans, bases, and dimension, eigen- values, and eigenvectors, maxtrix exponentials. Ordinary differential equations: higher-order homo- geneous and inhomogeneous ODEs and linear systems of ODEs, phase plane analysis, non-linear systems. We will also covers some topics in Laplace transform or/and series solutions to linear differential equations. For further info see here.


Grading Policy

Your grade will depend on homework, quizzes, 2 Midterm exams and a cumulative final.

Breakdown:
Written Homework: 15%
Quizzes: 15%
1st Midterm : 15%
2nd Midterm : 20%
Final Exam: 35%

Written Homework: turned in before Tuesday's lecture. No make-up homework, however, you will be allowed to drop your lowest grade.

Quizzes: There will be weekly quizzes during recitations. The worst 2 quizzes will be dropped. The first quiz will be in week 3.


Exams

There will be two in-class midterm exams and one common final exam. Please let me know within the first two weeks if you have a conflict with any of these dates. Absence from an exam is a serious problem. Depending on circumstances, you may or may not be allowed to make up a missed midterm exam. The final exam will be cumulative (covers all material) and take place on Dec 19th.

1st Midterm Exam In-class, Sep 29th, Thursday.

2nd Midterm Exam 2: In-class, Nov 3rd, Thursday.

Final Exam : Final Exam, Dec 19th, 9-11am.
