Math 240: Calculus III, Fall 2013.
Calculus III is a class which is devoted to the study of linear algebra and its application to solving ordinary differential equations.
In the first part of the course, we will study matrices, linear systems, determinants, and linear maps. After this, we will continue to the study of
eigenvalues and eigenvectors, which we will then apply to the solution of linear ODEs. In this way, we will be able to give an elegant description of many physical phenomena,
such as damping and oscillation of a pendulum. If time permits, we will also explore some nonlinear phenomena. This class is of relevance to the study of
Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Economics, Biology and to many other fields. The prerequisite for the class is Math 114: Calculus II.
Our class will meet on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 to 11 AM in 402 Claudia Cohen Hall.
