Policy:
Some of this is a repeat of the Instructor's policy laid out here.
Your final grade is calculated as such: 25% first exam, 25% second exam, 30% final exam, 20% homeworks+quizzes.
In calculating your homework+quiz grade your lowest homework grade and your lowest quiz grade will be dropped. The tentative plan is to count each graded homework and quiz with equal weight. Quizzes/Homewoks will be graded and handed back to you. You can also view your grades online by loging on to Blackboard with your pennkey.
Not every question on homeworks will be graded. Usually 3 representative problems are selected from each assignment and graded on a 0-3 scale. You won't know in advance which problems will be selected. You are expected to show your work unless otherwise stated. You may work together on homework with fellows students, but everyone must write up their own solution.
Homework is due on Friday. Turn it in to Rimmer during lecture. As soon as I grade them you will get them back in recitation. Late homeworks will not be accepted. If you think you deserve more points on a homework you should come see me. TAKE NOTE: after you get your homework back you only have one week to dispute the grade for that homework.
There will be one short quiz every week during recitation. Unless otherwise stated you are expected to show work as in homework problems. There are no make up or retake quizzes. Remember, you can miss one quiz and one homework without affecting your grade. Otherwise, if you must miss class and/or not hand in a homework you must have a GOOD, PRIOR excuse.
Advice:
Show up and take notes
Ask questions (in class and office hours)
Read the book
Do your homework
