Information on Exam 2 for Math 314, Spring 2019
Exam 2 was held on Friday, March 29. The exam was out of a total of 100 points
(five problems worth 20 points each, with partial credit given).
This exam counts for 15% of the course grade. The first and third exams also each count
for 15% of the course grade. Homework counts
for 40% of the course grade, while participation counts for 15%.
The distribution of grades on Exam 2 was just a bit lower than on Exam 1.
The median score on Exam 2 was 87. The cutoffs for the other quartiles were 74 and 96,
with a quarter of the class getting very high scores.
To interpret the numerical scores as letter grades, the following can be used as a
guideline for this exam:
- A+: 98-100
- A: 92-97
- A-: 84-91
- B+ 76-83
- B: 68-75
- B-: 58-67
- C+: 48-57
- C: 38-47
- C-: 29-37
In computing the course grades, the numerical scores on exams will be used, in
conjunction with the letter grade guidelines. As a result, for example, a
high B+ on this exam will count for almost as much as a low A- (and similarly for the
other cut-offs).
Individual grade information is available on Canvas.
