Make a List #4

ML #5

Hints and answers

Jamie and Lynn each worked a different number of days, but each earned the same amount of money. Use the following clues to find how many days each worked:
  • Jamie earned $15 a day.
  • Lynn earned $10 a day.
  • Lynn worked 5 more days than Jamie.

There are several possible approaches to this problem. You could guess and check, or make a systematic list, or work backwards, or use algebra! However you do the problem, you can consider situations where three of the four conditions (Jamie's salary, Lynn's salary, the fact that they made the same amount of money, and the fact that Lynn worked 5 more days than Jamie). Then figure out how many days they worked will result in the other condition being satisfied.

After you solve this one, you might enjoy making up similar problems to share with others.

As always, be sure to explain the work you did to arrive at your answers!
