Tanekia had her monthly allowance doubled, next received an additional $ 3 increase, and then had her allowance cut in half. How much more or less is her present allowance compared with her original allowance?

• The surprising thing about this problem is that you can figure out the answer even though it might seem that there is not enough information. In particular, you don't know what Tanekia's allowance was to begin with.
• So you can do the problem by starting with any specific amount you want for Tanekia's allowance ($10 ? $20 ? etc). Then perhaps try it for a different beginning amount to see whether or not it matters.
