Julie can eat a medium size pepperoni pizza in 8 minutes. Her friend Samantha can eat the same size pizza in 6 minutes. If both of them ate at their same rates, how long would it take them to eat one medium sized pepperoni pizza together?

• This is like the previous problem. And we use a figure to do it the same way:
  
  
• Since Julie can eat the whole pizza in 8 minutes, in one minute she eats 1/8 of the pizza. Likewise, Samantha eats 1/6 of the pizza in one minute.
• So together they can eat 1/8 + 1/6 = 14/48 = 7/24 of the pizza in one minute.
• Therefore, it will take them 24/7 minutes (about 3.43 minutes) to finish the pizza. They sure are hungry!
